Project Overview
The "Emergency Reconstruction of Northern Railway Line Damaged by Cyclone Ditwah: Civil Works between Maho and Omanthai" [LOA No: IRCON/9046/SLR.MAHO-OMT/Restoration Work/Civil-03/LOA] is an urgent railway infrastructure restoration project funded under Indian Grant Assistance and executed for IRCON International Limited at a total accepted contract value of LKR 224,697,785.00.
Following severe cyclone damage across 128 km of the Northern Railway Line, RR Construction deployed rapid-response civil engineering teams, heavy excavators, rock boulder transportation, and specialized track machinery to perform emergency embankment restoration across multiple key sections (including Ambanpola-Galgamuwa, Galgamuwa-Senarathgama, Tambuttegama-Talawa, Sravastipura-Anuradhapura, Boo Oya-Vavuniya, and Thandikulam-Omanthai).
The scope of work included the removal of washed-away debris, formation preparation with rock boulders (2,720 Cum), ABC layer laying and compaction (750 Cum), geotextile & geogrid bearing layer installation, gabion wall construction, grouted stone riprap slope protection (1,315 Cum), and the supply & laying of 3,500 Cum of railway ballast.
All emergency railway formation civil works were completed within an intensive 2-month timeframe during track block operations in full compliance with IRCON technical specifications and CIDA SCA/5 standards.
